Match Report:

Kings Hill got off to a flier with the first two pairings being up in their respective matches early and never relinquishing the advantage to race to a 2-0 match lead, guaranteeing at least the draw. Losing was not an option for these two pairings due to the squad banter that would surely flow as match one played two juniors and match two had to contend with a female caddie as distraction. Match number three were 4 down through 9 against a Mid Kent pairing featuring ex-professional Lloyd Godwin, but battled back to 1 down before two quick hole wins for Mid Kent closed the match out 3&2.

The story of the match goes to the final group. Kings Hill needing half a point to secure the win were 3 down after 12 holes, but in no time at all and after a monster putt drained on the 17th for birdie from Rowley Draper, they took a 1 up lead into the final hole to guarantee us the half point we needed. A 15 foot putt from the experienced Mid Kent captain at the last was enough to win the hole and halve their match, leaving Rowley and Mark disappointed but huge congratulations needs to go to them for their battling mentality.

Special individual performance mentions go to James Guard, who consistently produced steady par after par when his partner needed them the most (with James confessing this is not his usual game) and Richard Moxham, who individually was 2 under par for the day.

Well done to the whole team however, who made it easy for myself and Dicky to temporarily take the captaincy for the day in the absence of Danny Jones. Our first win on the board – a feat not achieved last season – against a team that regularly compete for the title is amazing. Let’s build on this for the season ahead. Well done all!
